Director’s Notes

Why Lady Macbeth’s story now? Reviled and named the classic evil bitch, we sought to unearth the child and woman who was full of hopes and dreams. In our play this woman in agony and denial, in the final hour of her life, decides to face her life—the joys and the horrors. She becomes a witness to her life. Bravely and fully engaging in her emotional experiences, she searches for a place of peace from which she might meet her death. In our technologically advancing, high-paced society we are placing less and less value on the feeling side of humanity. In telling this tale we say that to be present for all the pain and glory of one’s life is to be fully human. In Lady Macbeth’s world, as a woman, she was unable to fulfill herself—it is our challenge that in our world we all fulfill our passions and loves. Everyone in this creative process has been asked to show up with full passion, love and commitment—the same things we found coursing through the Lady’s veins- thank you all.
